The beautiful Kylemore Abbey built in 1868 as a private castle home for Mitchell Henry and his wife has 40,000 square feet and 70 rooms. It was converted to and Abbey and school for girls in 1920 and the school functioned until 2010. The story of this castled turned abbey is fascinating. I suggest a visit or at least a look up on Wikipedia. At least two of the nuns that lived and taught there were relatives of mine. My grandfather Anthony Conroy worked at the abbey as a young man around 1900. He lived just a few miles away. My entire extended family visited there this September.
