The Lost Palms Oasis showcases one of six California Palm groves within Joshua Tree National Park. A moderate four mile hike (8 miles round trip) starts at the Cottonwood Springs area near the Cottonwood Visitor's center. The trail takes you over various eroded granite ridges, along a number of washes, and through typical Sonoran desert scenery until you descend into the ravine that contains the oasis. There, the water supports a cooler microclimate than the surrounding desert where the hiker can rest in the shade and listen to the wind in the palms.
