Lucern looking at Kapellbrücke and Water Tower
Switzerland
Lucerne is particularly known for its wooden bridges. Today the Chapel Bridge runs from the Neustadt on the south bank of the Reuss, past the old water tower, to the Rathausquai in the medieval old town. The landmark of Lucerne is the oldest covered wooden bridge in Europe. It was built in the 14th century and was originally part of the city fortifications. The pictures, attached in the 17th century, show scenes from Swiss and Lucerne history - including the biographies of the city patron St. Leodegar and the Swiss patron saint, St. Mauritius.
