Marshall Lake, Sawtooth National Wilderness, Idaho, USA
Sawtooth National Wilderness

Marshall Lake is located on the northern end of the Sawtooth National Wilderness Area, Custer County, Idaho, USA.  The lake sits at 7,715 feet (2,352m) above sea-level and is a 4.5 mile (7.2km) hike from the nearest trailhead, which is Redfish Lake Campground.  Redfish Lake Campground is 6.2 miles (10km) by road south from the town of Stanley, Idaho.  The hike to the lake is all on a maintained Forest Service trail (other than the hike up the hill where this image was taken from).  The total elevation change of the hike to Marshall Lake is 1,145 feet (349m).

This image was taken on November 10, 2011 about 1,500 feet (457m) south of the lake and 750 feet (229m) above it.  Marshall Lake is approximately 480 feet (146m) long and 600 feet (183m) wide and has a shoreline distance of about 1,800 feet (549m).  As pictured, Marshall Lake is both ice and snow covered.

Harsh winters keep Marshall Lake ice and snow covered over half the year.  The best time for visiting in summer weather is August through October.
