Middle Fork Davis Creek Mine
California

The Warner Mountains east of Davis Creek, California are well known for its obsidian deposits.  This view shows the Middle Fork Davis Creek Mine, where nearly every rock on the ground is obsidian, though the real prize for rock collectors here is finding a piece of rainbow obsidian.  A permit for collection is required however.  Various other types of obsidian including mahogany & iris can be found in the region as well.  Obsidian needles are also abundant in other collecting areas around here.
