Milford Sound
New Zealand

Photographer’s Notes:

I wish I could say that I was the first person to take panoramic photo gear to Milford Sound, but I’m far from that. This is likely one of the most photographed places in New Zealand.
Before I arrived in the area I had no idea where I’d be taking photos from. I thought maybe the boat cruise might be a good place to start, but it was too late in the day when we finally made it up the crazy road that takes you into the area.
The weather was nice the day we arrived, so we set about exploring the area trying to find the spot to take photos from. We were disappointed to see that the track around to the waterfall was closed. If you look towards the sun and left a little in this photo then you can just see the spray coming from it. It was possible to walk out to the end of the breakwater so we had a look out there and I decided the light was pretty good and the clouds were quite interesting. I asked Ruqayah if she wanted to be in this photo as I wanted the viewer of the picture to be able to imagine themselves here… sitting looking at Mitre Peak…
I have various other ideas for spots to get to in this area for more photos, but no concrete plans on how or when this well happen yet… So maybe watch this space…
