Lower Mill Creek Falls, Moab, Utah, USA
Utah

Before the internet, Mill Creek was generally only visited by locals and the intrepid rock climber who might visit its upper reaches.  The creek supports a beautiful riparian environment in the desert and offers a cool retreat of water and shade from the hot desert sun.  The presence of waterfalls and pools along its length has attracted humans to the area since pre-European history.

I discovered the hike by way of a book on Utah waterfalls.  As luck would have it, I visited on a quiet day when I only saw perhaps 20 people along the hike.  This can be a very very popular place.

On busier days at the height of the summer tourist season, several hundred people might visit the canyon at the same time.  Keep this in mind when you visit this beautiful place, both to decide how many people you wish to see and the impact on the environment.
