Monastery of Panagia Gouverniotissa - Potamies Village
Greece

The church of Panagia Gouverniotissa was the church of a monastery of the Venetian period. Under Venetian archives the church belonged to the mid 16th century the Venetian nobleman Francesco Ntemetzo, who granted the Hieromonk Makarios and Parthenio pole. His mother Ntemetzo, Diana assumed the expenses of repairing the temple and construction of the temple. Since then Gkouverniotissa spent time of great prosperity. Most of the images decorating the church and now in the Historical Museum of Crete, belong to that period.
