Peniche
Portugal

Panorama photographed in front of Peniche Fort. A renaissance fort with a long history, which extends to the 1970s. Built by order of D. João III in the century XVI, and completed in the century XVII by D. João IV due to constant attacks of corsairs. Today it houses the Municipal Museum, which hosts various archeology, history and ethnography exhibitions such as the typical embroidery, fishing and shipbuilding exhibitions. There is also a section of the museum dedicated to the Resistance, where the prison environment is recreated. Here you can also visit Álvaro Cunhal's cell, observe his charcoal drawings on the wall and peek into his place of escape along with several political prisoners during the dictatorial period. Peniche is a picturesque coastal town in the Portuguese district of Leiria. Full of culture, traditions and excellent resources and natural beauties. Located on a peninsula with a perimeter of around 10 kilometers, Peniche is one of the largest traditional fishing ports in Portugal and also a major center of tourist activities linked to the sea. With long sandy beaches, such as Praia de Supertubos, where the World Surfing Championship (WCT) Rip Curl Pro Search is held, Peniche is known as the surfing capital of Portugal.

XVI, e concluída no séc.
