Pentire Point and the Rumps
England

Pentire Point and The Rumps make up the headland that lies to the North East of the Camel estuary.

The poet Laurence Binyon wrote 'For The Fallen' (first published in September, 1914) while sitting on the cliffs between Pentire Point and The Rumps. A stone plaque was erected in 2001 to commemorate the fact and bears the inscription:

    For The Fallen
    Composed on these cliffs 1914

The plaque also bears the fourth stanza of the poem:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
    We will remember them

The promontory of The Rumps is the site of an Iron Age fort.
