There are many theories how these vertical structures were created, one of them was that a forest of Moonah trees was smothered by a sand dune and water seeping through the sand creating a crust around decaying trunks, other theories appear more plausible due to the very dense arrangement of vertical trunk like structures. Today it is believed that the vertical structures are solution pipes, a result of chemicals, wind, rain, and seeping water.
