A very sad sight...Right behind the first ridge of mountains at the famous Blue Hole just outside Dahab, Egypt is this massive mound of plastic bottles.
The bottles are the waste of the handful of restaurants here who cater to the thousands of snorkelers, divers and other tourists who come here every year. This waste is hoarded out of site (hidden from tourist view) and apparently periodically driven away, although this heap has been here in different states for several years.
Unfortunately very little is being done to keep this site clean and the amount of plastic washing up on the rocky shore of the Blue Hole on a daily basis could easily eclipse this heap several times over.
Note that this Blue Hole is one of five in the world.
