Plaza Fragela - Cadiz - Spain

In this square there are three institutions importasntes of the city, the Gran Teatro Falla, The Faculty of Medicine of the UCA. and the House Fragela, which gives the square its name. The theater was built being 1884 and 1905 on the ashes of the former Grand Theatre, the plans are for Adolfo Morales de los Rios and the direction of the work to Juan Cabrera Latorre who introduced important innovations. The exterior of red brick and Moorish style, the main facade gives the square of Fragela, also highlighting the rich and colorful interior dominated also by the Spanish Moorish style.

The Faculty of Medicine is the oldest of the University of Cádiz, a direct descendant of the Royal College of Surgeons of Cadiz founded in 1748, the first center in Europe that combined medicine and surgery in the center.
The House Fragela was funded and built at the initiative of John Fragela, wealthy bourgeois of Greek origin, who ceded to accommodate widows and impoverished women.
