Pompei - Ancient Intersection
Naples

Pompeii was an ancient Roman city near today´s Naples. It became a colony about 80 BC and was burried unter up to 6 m (20 ft) of ash after the erruption of the Vesuvius 79 AD. The population was estimated to approx. 11,000 at this time. After about 1,500 years Pompeii was started to be rediscovered and excavationas are still going on. For more than 250 years by now it is known as a tourist attraction. Pompeii has the status of a Worls Heritage Site by the UNESCO.

This panorama was taken in the ruins of the ancient city on one an intersection of two main roads. Just missing the traffic lights :-)!
