Porta Monastery on 18 September 2011
Turkey

This old Georgian Monastery located on a steep mountain slope is a most extraordinary witness of construction activities under most difficult circumstances. Considering that the lower parts of two main support columns have been removed and later replaced by home-made piles of stones it is amazing that these columns still stand. Another aspect is the access road which over long portions passes through near vertical rock faces and if a driver of the car is afraid of hights he better does not drive there at all.
