Rincon, South Comb Ridge Point, San Juan County, Utah, USA
Utah

This area of southern Utah is called Rincon (Spanish for "corner").  Here Comb Wash and Comb Ridge meet the San Juan River.  This area is loaded with historical significance.  Anciently, Anasazi Indians inhabited the area and left buildings, trails and petroglyphs.  An un-excavated Kiva can be faintly seen (circular) on the valley floor near where a fence intersects a road.

In the late 1800's Mormon pioneers traveled through this place on their way to what is now Bluff, Utah.  They managed to get their wagon train up on the mesa above by navigating the steep rock ravine partially in view of this image.

Down on the landing on the close side of the river is the remains of an old trading post known as Barton's Trading Post.  Only a partial rock building and the foundation of a waterwheel remain today (faintly visible in the image).

Today this place is visited by history buffs, nature seekers and river floaters.
