The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail extends from Gardiner, NY to the south up to Rosendale NY at the north, covering over 12 miles. Along the way, you pass right through the village of New Paltz, by horse farms, and spectacular views of the Shawangunk range.
Up until recently, you could walk part way across the magnificent bridge that carried the railroad over Rosendale, but now, that is sadly no longer available. Engineering surveys have concluded that it is not safe. The good news is, there is a vibrant community working to fix the problems and reopen the bridge as well as complete the full crossing, which will link the rail trail all the way up to Kingston!

As you walk, bike, or horseback ride along the trail, please keep in mind that private property is on either side of you.
