Santa Maria del Naranco, Oviedo, World Heritage
Santa María, built in the IXth century on the slopes of Mount Naranco, near Oviedo, was originally a little palace or hunting pavillion for the king. It was made a church later, when the real church, San Miguel de Lillo, collapsed.
Santa María is an architectural jewel, two centuries in advance of the Romanesque constructing solutions. Its proportions, sobriety and functionality were extremely admired in the early Middle Ages.
