Scott's Terra Nova hut
Antarctica

This hut was erected in January 1911 as the base for Robert Falcon Scott's Terra Nova expedition. Scott's party reached the South Geographic Pole on 17 January 1912, but tragically died on the way back. The other men stayed in the hut another winter, before sending out search parties and finding their bodies on 12 November 1912. Today the hut has been wonderfully restored by the Antarctic Heritage Trust. Mt Erebus can be clearly seen in the east and Wind Vane Hill in the south-west behind the hut. 2011-02-07
