Senator Mine - Mercury Retort
Nevada
Lower portion of the gravity mill. Here, the cinnabar fell into a retort and converted into mercury. Located in the Round Mountain Mining district, in a small canyon high in the Toquima Range, the Senator Mine, also known as the Red Bird Mine, was a Mercury mine that produced 137 flasks of mercury through 1965. The camp was completely abandoned in 1968.
