The General Sherman Tree is often known as the tallest tree in the world. This is not really accurate, since there are taller and wider trees in the world. General Sherman has an approx. hight of 275 ft / 83.8 m. But in volume of wood (52,500 cft / 1486 m³) it has no equal and therefore it earns the title as worlds largest tree.
To reach the site, there are two possible paths, one from above and one from below. At least the way from above is very steep. Althogh the walking distance from the parking lot to the tree is only 1/2 mil / 750 m the hight difference is quite remarkable with some 200 ft / 70m. And don´t forget, you have to walk it all back up. Although it doesn´t seem to impressive, it is quite exhausting! Take enough water with you!
