The Soli Tumulus located within the Antique City of Soli in Mezitli District, Mersin, is 22 m high and 300 m wide in diameter. Surface studies conducted on the hill revealed fragments of ceramics and architectural remains that are dated to a time span between the Late Iron Age and the Roman Period. Other findings indicate that the history of Soli Tumulus could date back as earl as to the Neolithic Period. Moreover, traces of Chalcolithic and Old Bronze Periods were also found in this archeological site. We can mention an earthenware seal, a flask, a bulla and a large plate among the pieces from the Hittite Period. Findings acquired during excavations performed in Soli Tumulus and the ancient theatre revealed the traces of the Classical, Archaic, Geometric and Hellenistic Periods.
