The Anichikov Bridge
Carrying Nevsky Prospekt across the Fontanka River, the Anichikov Bridge is one of the city's most famous, and a perennially popular site for photography. A wooden bridge was first built on the site in 1715-16 - the first across the Fontanka - and the name honors the engineer who designed it. The current stone bridge dates back to 1842, although several structural improvements have been made since. The bridge has four impressive corner statues - The Horse Tamers by Pyotr Klodt - and its intricate iron railings.
