The Cathedral of Our Lady of Remedies "Old Mello"

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Surrender known as the "Old Mello" is a temple of the sixteenth century, has a virgin who was taken to Riohacha from Cape La Vela, when the port was assaulted by the British who sought pearls. Inside the cathedral are deposited the remains of the famous independence hero Admiral José Prudencio Padilla.

The chronicles of ancient historians, that in the fifteenth century Queen Isabella wanted to evangelize these regions and sent pictures of Lady paths, under different titles. But to get the boxes to the port of Santa Marta was a providential confusion, the image of the Immaculate Conception, which was designed to Riohacha was in Santa Marta and Our Lady of Remedies, in the capital of La Guajira.

Many miracles are attributed to him, but the most famous is that a strong storm hit and totally destroyed Riohacha First Street, where the hotel now stands Arimaca, water was swallowing the city. Desperate parishioners rushed to the cathedral and took the image of the Virgin of Los Remedios, during the procession, the winds stole the gold crown worn by the Virgin and is coming soon on the beach immediately calmed the fury of the sea.
