The world famous Heard Museum is located on Central Avenue, just north of downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The Heard opened in 1929 and has had steady growth both to its collections of Southwestern American Indian art but also in the size and scope of its buildings and programs. The Heard Museum is recognized internationally as one of the premier locations of its kind. The Museum hosts six to eight new exhibitions annually and has outstanding ongoing exhibits. The collections include jewelry, textiles, baskets, ceramics, beadwork and carvings. The Museum is located just north of the Phoenix Art Museum complex and a few blocks north of the Phoenix Public Library. The collections display the fantastic artwork of the various Indian tribes, mainly of the Southwestern U.S. but also stretching into other areas around the world.
