Das Hohe Venn ist eine Hochmoorlandschaft an der deutsch – belgischen Grenze. Vor etwa 7500 Jahren begann die Entwicklung diese Hochmoors. Nach dem Ende der letzten Eiszeit bildete sich das Venn durch die teilweise Verrottung der Pflanzen und es wurden mächtige Torfschichten aufgebaut.
Von den ehemals etwa 1000 Hektar Moor sind heute noch etwa 100 Hektar übrig geblieben. Diese Reste des einmaligen Hochmoors sind heute streng geschützt.
Im Herbst und Winter übt diese Landschaft einen ganz besonderen Reiz aus. Heute ist das Hohe Venn ein wichtiger Rückzugsraum für seltene Vögel und Pflanzen und neben der Eifel ein wichtiger Naherholungsraum für die Menschen aus der Euregio.
