The sands of Scarista, Harris
Scotland

The wide, open expanse of white sands at Scarista that face into the turquoise shallows of the Sound of Taransay form one of the finest beaches in Scotland.

The areas of low lying grasses are known as Machair. They are some of the rarest habitats in Europe, found only on the exposed western coasts of Scotland and Ireland.
