Tipaza Roman Ruins (5 of 8) - Stele in memory of Albert Camus
Algeria

Western archeological site, Tipaza Prefecture, Algeria.

After the death of the renowned writer in 1960, family and close friends decided to erect a stele in his memory, which was made in 1961.

The inscribed text is taken from his essay "Noces à Tipasa" (weddings in Tipasa): "I understand here what we call glory: the right to love without measure."
Camus borrowed this phrase from Saint Augustine of Hippo: "The measure of love is to love without measure."
