Torremayor

Catholic parish church under the patronage of St. James, in the Archdiocese of Mérida-Badajoz. Interesting factory building blocks of granite masonry. Plant has a single nave divided into four sections with a barrel vault roof on four arches. The header has two fields, the chancel and altar with vault. The buttresses of ashlar surround the temple. The cover letter is next to the Renaissance, with an arch flanked by columns with Ionic pilasters, medallions in the spandrels and crowning pediment. On the lower body of the tower, formed by a plating isódano of blocks, opens the main entrance, looking strong, with arch. Above it, a window frame with paneled lintel in diamond, surrounded by a decorative set equal to the cover of the Gospel. The altarpiece dates from the sixteenth century and is plateresco. Not made for the chapel but is thought to come from another parish. Plant is erect, with bank of two bodies and three blocks. The two bodies of four tables show altarpiece with the image of Santiago Matamoros. The iconography on the left of the sanctuary depicts Christ tied to the column, and right, a female figure, of distinguished bearing, with a staff right and left a rose. The Annunciation and prayer in the garden are represented in the first body. The tables on the second and the image holder address topics Jacobean. The attic is the Descent instead of the Crucifixion as is normal.
