Trona Mining at Searle Dry Lake
California
Hopper cars line up waiting to be filled with trona mined from the Searles dry lake. Trona is a rare sodium-rich mineral use for baking soda and sodium phosphate, used in baking soda and detergents. At Searles lake they use the wet mining method, injecting a solution into the deposits left by the lake.
