Tychy - the Little Theatre (Teatr Maly)

The Little Theatre (Teatr Mały) in the north of the Estate "B" in Tychy, was erected in 1964 according to a design of Wacław Jaciow, in conceptual cooperation with Bolesław Seredyński and Kazimierz Wejchert. It was situated on a slight hill on the south side of Potok Tyski Stream, opposite the baroque church from 1782 and the Market Square. The general designers of the city (Kazimierz and Hanna Wejchert) intended both buildings to form a compositional whole.

The low, elongated front facade of the theatre, which combines two noble materials - glass and stone, is a harmonious part of the edge of the stream valley.
The middle section of the main part of the building is risen on pillars to form arcades allowing access to the courtyard of the theatre. The mosaic with architectural motifs, covering the west side of the building, is also very interesting.
The interiors of the theatre were also very impressive and modern for those times, especially the auditorium with a sapphire ceiling above it - never before seen in previous theatre interiors.
Nowadays the Little Theatre is a place of many cultural and artistic events, for example Tychy Theatre Encounters, Disabled Persons' Work Festival, School Youth Culture Festival, and another - literary contests, concerts etc. In the building of the theatre there is also "OBOK" Gallery, where you can see many interesting exhibitions of the art of many artists from Poland and from abroad.
