Virkisfell

At the North side of Vatnajökull, Europe’s biggest Glacier by volume.

Despite being the middle of summer the temperature on the day this image was taken was below 0c. Looking East you can see fresh snow on the mountain.
This image was taken from the summit of Virkisfell from an Elevation of 1019 metres above sea level. Looking down to the West you can see Kverkfjöll where there is a mountain hut which in summer time is manned by a warden. The summit of Virkisfell can be reached from the mountain hut in about 1 hour.
