B-Double Truck and Water Storage Tanks
Eyre Peninsula

Whyalla, established early in the 1900s as a base for iron ore mining, has very little rainfall (250mm pa) and the growth of the city became only possible when a water pipeline and 127 watertanks were installed between Whyalla and the river Murray at Morgan. The project took place from 1940 to 1944. Large concrete storage tanks mark the 379 kilometre run of the pipeline.
