Weltenburg - Klosterkirche u. Biergarten
Bavaria

The Weltenburg Monastery is a Benedictine Abbey (Abbey of St. George) in Weltenburg, a district of Kelheim on the Danube river in Niederbayern. It lies above the Danube cross in a Danube loop. The monastery belongs to the Bavarian Benedictine Congregation. The main tasks of today's abbey Weltenburg are the parishioners (care of four parishes) and the reception of guests in the "meeting place St. Georg".

Beergarden:

The fact that monks breed beer in Weltenburg is documented for the first time in 1050, which is why Weltenburg promotes the "oldest monastery brewery in the world". The annual output is almost 30,000 hectoliters. A beer garden was set up in the cloister yard, where brewery products were served. Since April 2007, the brewery has been offering guided tours on the weekends. The "World Monastery Baroque Dark" was awarded the "World Beer Cup" in 2004, 2008 and 2012 as the best dark beer in the world.

More About Bavaria

The “Free State of Bavaria” is renowned for being culturally unique and for the emphasis which it places on preserving its heritage and traditions. It is also extraordinarily beautiful, boasting a plethora of castles, palaces, cathedrals, abbeys and monasteries not to mention spectacular scenery. Bavaria is more than Alps, men in “lederhosen” (leather pants), women in “dirndl” (traditional dresses) and frothy glasses of beer by the “maβ” (liter).
