The Wiesensee (literally "Meadow Lake") near Ebensee in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria is a dead ice hole from the last ice age, in which a lake forms every year during the snowmelt. The lake is more than two hectares in size and can reach a depth of over three meters. As quickly as the lake appears, it disappears again after a few days, leaving behind the meadow that gives the lake its name.
