Yuma Crossing State Historic Park, Yuma, Arizona USA
Arizona
The panorama is in the Gateway Park, next to the Yuma Crossing State Historic Park, right in the old downtown area of Yuma, Arizona, and is part of the larger Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area, an area that was established to conserve, enhance, and interpret the natural and cultural resources of the community. Located in the Heritage Area is the Yuma Quartermaster Depot State Historic Park, the Yuma (Arizona) Territorial Prison, Fort Yuma and other historic sites. Yuma Crossing was the only lower Colorado River crossing area in the 18th and 19th Centuries. The Crossing was used anciently because it is the only crossing point for a thousand miles of the River. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966. The Historic Area is a cooperative effort of Indian tribes, agricultural interests, environmental and wildlife non-profit organizations, and many federal, state and local agencies. See Wikipedia:Yuma Crossing. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuma_Crossing) The Yuma Crossing is one of the designated tour sights of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, a National Park Service unit in the United States National Historic Trail and National Millennium Trail programs.
