Žilina - Municipial Council building and monument to the victims of communism
Zilina

The building of the Municipial Council of Zilina is an excellent example of the Slovak modernistic architecture. It was built in 1988 according to a design of Viera Mecková, a famous Slovak woman architect. She received a prize of the Slovak Architects' Association for this design.

The building is said to be interesting thanks to original form of its elevation - it is made of ceramic tiles, which sometimes form interesting compositions. Its expressive look is also a consequence of large glazings and windows.
In 2017 the building was renovated, but of course with a great concern for saving its unique expression.
In front of the building there is also the monument to the victims of the communist regime by Slovak academic sculptor Milan Lukáč.
