View from atop Blue Mountain (elev. 5,740') in Modoc National Forest north of Alturas, California.  The true summit to the mountain is nearby, only ten feet higher than here, however this vantage yields a nice view to the west, facing Clear Lake Reservoir, the Tule Lake Basin, distant Mount Shasta & Medicine Lake Volcano, as well as many other peaks.  To the north is portions of Oregon & the Warner Mountains are visible to the east.  A fire lookout site was designated in 1929 however this present structure was built in 1962.
