The monumental carved choir screen in Chartres Cathedral. Chartres Cathedral, also know as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres (Notre-Dame de Chartres) is a Roman Catholic church in Chartres (Eure et Loir) - France, about 80km southwest of Paris. Mostly constructed between 1194 and 1220, it is in a High Gothic and Romanesque styles. The cathedral was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979, which called it "the high point of French Gothic Art" and a "masterpiece". The carved ambulatory choir screen at Chartres Cathedral was designed in the early 16th century by Jehan de Beauce and includes about 200 individual statues.
