Castigilione di Garfagnana view, Lucca - Italy
Toscana

The village of Castiglione di Garfagnana, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy, is surrounded by woods and wild nature. This village stands on a wild, mountainous borderland. The landscape is very different from that of Tuscany that we all imagine with its gentle hills. Ludovico Ariosto described this area as "land of wolves and brigands". It is characterized by the fortress, by the massive defensive walls, the clearly medieval towers.

The photograph was taken from the Belvedere tower, part of the ancient city walls and in the background the ancient castle, now a private residence.

The afternoon light is very beautiful and enhances the white of the stone and the green of the wild vegetation around.
