Church, cannon and bell with war memorial in Sirmione in Italy
Lombardia
Although remodeled several times over the centuries, the Church of San Pietro in Mavino shows interesting Lombard Romanesque legacies, in particular the ancient bell tower dating back to 1070. The gabled wall facade with a low arched door is very simple and welcoming, which leads us inside to discover the frescoes dating back to the XII – XVI. With a single nave and three semicircular apses, the Church houses a single side chapel built in 1630 and dedicated to San Nicola da Tolentino. Outside, the bell monument is very suggestive, which with its tolling recalls the fallen of the two world wars. From this area you can also enjoy wonderful views of Lake Garda. A curiosity: given the isolated position, the Church was inhabited by a hermit until the mid-nineteenth century. Sirmione, Italy January 2023

More About Lombardia
