The statue is The king Gustav II Adolf (died at Lützen in Germany in a battle in 1632).

Across the square is the Swedish Department of Foreign Affairs or "Utrikesdepartementet" in Swedish. On the other side is the Opera house. Across the bridge is Stockholm Royal palace.

On the right hand side of the bridge is the parliament building. Between the Royal Palace and the parliament building the towers of the German Church and the cathedral "Storkyrkan" can be seen.
