The Hill o' Many Stanes

This is a hill with rows of stones forming a fan shape on the hill. It is thoought that the stones were erected in bronze age. The reason for the monument is unknown but Professor Alexander Thom measured their alignment and thought they were a lunar observatory, tracing the moon in its 18.6 year cycle. However other similar stone monuments in Caithness don't have the same alignment.

Local legend says that this was the site of a batlle between the Keiths and the Gunns. After the battle the dead of both sides were buried on the site with a stone marking the last resting place of each fallen warrior.
