When the Union Verdey Smelter came online in 1914 there was a need for more power so they contracted the Arizona Power Company (TAPCO) to build the Irving Turbine And Generator which came online in 1916 at a cost of $135,000.
Water diverted from the Fossil Creak which provided 470 pounds of preasure per square foot to the turbine which produced up to 2100 horse power at 900RPM to rotate the generator. The generator was capable of producing up to 10,860,000 Kilowats of power per hour and operated through 2004 when it was shut down.
