With its advantage of being an air and sea port, Kaohsiung has spared no effort to become the "Asia-Pacific Operations Center." The Kaohsiung Software Technology Park was set up within the multifunctional commerce and trade park, which has an area of 587 hectares.

The park seeks to attract firms in information software, digital audio, video, computer, and communications sectors in the Asia-Pacific region. The land occupancy rate has reached 100 percent and manufacturers currently stationed in the park include KKBOX, CGCG and Foxconn Technology Group. A knowledge-intensive district has already been formed.  The existing export processing zone, the Southern Taiwan Science Park, and the light rail system that is scheduled to open in 2014 will help to realize the vision of transforming Kaohsiung into the Asia-Pacific Operations Center.
