Kennedy Wheels State Park, a Standing Wheel
California

This is one of the remaining water wheels at Kennedy Mine.  The Kennedy mine was a qaurtz vein being mined for gold.  The tailings sludge was washing downstream and fouling the fields of nearby farmers.  To resolve this issue, the mine built a series of flumes and water wheels, powered by electric motors, that would carry the tailings up to a detention dam.  This is one of the few surviving wheels.  Cool.
