Odeon of Herodes Attikus at the Acropolis of Athens

This is the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the so called the ancient Herodeion theater, the stage of many cultural events, with international performers of worldwide fame. Maria Callas, Luciano Pavarotti, Dimitris Mitropoulos, Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado, Wilheim Furtwagler and many other great singers and conductors as well as famous symphonic orchestras have performed at this marble stage theater. It was built in 161 AD by the Athenian magnate Herodes Atticus and has a capacity of 5.000 seats. To-day it is the main venue of the Athens Festival, which runs from May through October each year, featuring a variety of acclaimed Greek as well as International performances
