Turkey
It is in Sağlıklı Neighborhood, which is located 15 km to the north of Tarsus District, Mersin. It is made of serpentine stone on bedrock. Tarsus and its surroundings can be viewed up to the beach from this road. With an average width of 3 m, the intact length of the road is about 3 km. A rock inscription in Latin documenting that this road was repaired under the orders of Emperor Caracalla is presently erect in Bozağaç Neighborhood, which is located at the end of the road known since the 19th century. There stands an arched gate on the southern end of the road, which is dated to the 5th century AD. Travelers of antiquity indicate this arch was built as a triumphal arch. This gate, in other words “the Arch”, is said to have been the Border Gate of the Cilician Region. On a Latin inscription found on a milestone that was found by the antique road and dated to the first quarter of the 4th century AD states that the distance between the point where the milestone was erect and Tarsus was 12 miles.
