St Paulus Monumental Museum Tarsus Vr Mersin 62b
Turkey
The Church located in Cumhuriyet Neighborhood of Tarsus District, Mersin, has been known to the Christian community by the name of “Saint Paulus Church”. This church was renovated under the orders of the Ottoman Sultan in 1862, and accordingly, the present structure of St. Paulus Church was built. The church, taken under protection and repaired by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was opened for visits as St. Paulus Monumental Museum. There stands an arched narthex on top of four columns in front of the church, where religious ceremonies are occasionally held. The main gate here enables access to the church. There is a half column on each side of the entrance, and there are four free standing columns located in line with the columns in the entrance, which divide the hall into three naves. The middle section is vaulted. In the center of the roof is the fresco of Jesus Christ, accompanied by the Holy Bible evangelists Ioannes and Matteos on the east wall, and Marcos and Lucas on the west wall.
