Stringybark Creek (site)
Victoria

Stringybark Creek, in north-east Victoria, was the shoot out between the police and the Kelly Gang took place in 1878. A party of four policement, disguised in civilian clothes, set out from Mansfield to hunt for the Kelly Gang. They were camped here when the Kelly Gang surprised them. Three of them were killed and after this incident the Kelly Gang became outlaws. There is contraversy over the exact location of the camp, but this is the "official" site.
